They were there, a bit after the beginning
when the giant's existence was thinning
found deep in the valleys below
and on the mountains where high winds blow
They grow the best they can, no matter where they're sewn
They already know the secrets we're tryin' to find
and those rings within, they can tell you a lot
about when this place didn't cause such grief
maybe we'd listen, if only, if only these trees could talk
No complaint of concrete being built around them
bleeding sap tears as limbs are amputated again
giving a shade from the hot summer sun
humble me by their heights which scatter the lights
In a world obsessed with extreme rapidity, they provide a calm air of serenity......
They already know the secrets we're tryin' to find
and those rings within, they can tell you a lot
about when this place didn't cause such grief
maybe we'd listen, if only, if only these trees could talk
As we let the sun shine it's heat upon us, we basked like lizards finding our sweet solace
we saw in the sky, our lives shown up high
never to let this old river run dry
blue, green, yellow, turquoise, and auburns this old growth forest speaks
loud through it's ferns , loud through it's ferns
it tells us to use this whole planet with care
or else these returns will become quite rare.
